With the rise of social media networks and websites, people often find themselves communicating less in person, relying on the digital world to communicate. Whether it is by e-mail, social networking websites, text messaging, instant messaging and cell phone conversations, communication skills have been compromised and abandoned.

Effective communication skills are essential for an entrepreneur; the more you talk about your product or service, the better you get with your pitch. How you present yourself to an audience of clients, business partners, and competitors is essential to your success as a spokesperson for your company.  The business industry revolves around how you market yourself–your attributes, assets, skills, and capabilities.  Often, the first impression means everything and, in turn, could cost you a high profile venture or project, if executed poorly. Thus, how you communicate, articulate formulated thoughts, and present yourself are truly critical.

When interviewing for jobs, it is rare that you nail the interview in the first attempt and land the dream job.

Here are some ways to improve your communication skills:

  • Confidence: Be in control, and know what you are talking about.
  • Posture: An upright posture exudes self-composure, alertness, and confidence.
  • Tone of Voice: Don’t put me to sleep.  Adjust your voice to emphasize key points and grab the receiver’s attention. The more grabbing your tone of voice, the more plugged in the receiver will be.
  • Speed: Communicate at a speed in which the listener can follow your thoughts without losing you or getting bored.

Are there any special tactics or skills to use that help you communicate?
